Improved Attendance Recognition

Improved Attendance Recognition Caddo Parish Schools

There’s a renewed focus this school year on improving attendance scores across districts and in Caddo Parish that effort is already showing results.

At Huntington High School, the recognition came as a surprise. Principal Nick Smith was unaware that district administrators were stopping by with good news.

“It’s so exciting that they have improved their attendance from last September to this September by almost 5%t. That’s a very big number,” said Kasie Mainiero, child well-being specialist for Caddo Parish Schools.

Mainiero presented Smith with a trophy and certificate to mark the school’s achievement for most improved attendance at the high school level during National Attendance Month.

“We set out to put some measures in place,” said Patrick Greer, chief operating officer for Caddo Parish Schools. “We have a district team that’s marshaling the efforts around a pilot set of schools. We have about eight schools that they’re working with.”

Interrupting the school over the intercom, Smith shared the news with students and staff.

“I just got surprised by Central Office staff. We have just received an award for the most improved high school. I thank you guys for the hard work. And let’s keep coming to school,” he said.

The timing couldn’t have been better, coming just before fall break.

“Yeah, we are steadily making progress here at Huntington, so it felt good to have a win right before fall break," said ninth grade English teacher Crystal Peoples.
